STAYING UP-TO-DATE
It is always a good idea to keep up to date on what is
happening in your community. This includes staying current on decisions that
your elected Mayor and Councillors have made, and decisions
Council will soon make. These decisions can affect you and your family as well
as local businesses, tourism and the community at large. How do I keep up to date on decisions made and decisions to be made by my elected Council?
Fortunately, if you live in Billings Township it is fairly easy to keep up to date on decisions made by Billings Council and decisions to be made by Billings Council. The two best ways to keep up to date on decisions made and decisions to be made by Council, are:
- review agendas, meeting material and minutes for past and upcoming Council meetings, and,
- attend some Council meetings.
There are three types of Council meetings in Billings Township: Regular Council meetings, Special Council meetings and Internal Committee meetings.
Regular Council Meetings
Billings Township’s Council meet for Regular Council Meetings throughout the year. These Regular Council Meetings occur the first Tuesday and third Monday of each month. All meetings begin at 7:30pm. For calendar year 2022, there are 22 Regular CouncilMeetings scheduled, with meeting agendas, meeting handout material, and minutes of past meetings available online to the public.
Special Council Meetings
In addition to Regular Council Meetings, Council will meet
between scheduled meetings on an ad hoc basis when a business matter of urgency
needs to be addressed by Council before the next Regular Council Meeting. These
meetings are called Special Council Meetings.
Agendas, minutes and meeting handout packages for SpecialCouncil Meetings can also be found on the Township’s website.
Internal Committees
From time to time Billings
Township forms Internal Committees to address specific Township operations or
specialty areas of need. These committees usually comprise of a Councillor as Committee
Chair and members of the public. Internal Committees meet less frequent than
Council meets, usually once every 4 to 6 weeks. Currently these internal
committees, are:
·
Climate
Action Committee
·
Economic
Development Committee
·
Lake
Kagawong Resource Committee
·
Parks,
Recreation and Wellness Committee
Agendas, minutes and meeting handout packages for Internal Committee meetings are available online.
