COUNCIL REMUNERATION

You’re not in it for the money, but…

What would you be paid as a Mayor or Councillor of Billings?

In 2020, Billings council updated their remuneration by-law (retroactive to January 1st, 2020) and sets Council stipends as follows:

  • Mayor: $425 per month and $95 for each Board and/or Committee meeting.
  • Councillors: $300 per month and $75 for each Board and/or Committee meeting.
Monthly stipend covers attendance at Council meetings, special meetings and special events representing the township. Per-meeting rate covers attendance at Committees of Council and other external Committees that generally meet once a month or less

Other remuneration includes:
  • All members of Council: $75 per day for conference/educational sessions and travel days if overnight accommodations are required.
    • the stipends shall be increased each year, effective January 1, 2021 by the November Ontario Consumer Price Index
  • Actual meal costs up to $90.00 per day.
  • Actual accommodation costs
  • Mileage for meetings held outside of the township at $0.52/km

So while it may not feather your retirement nest, it is enough to cover hard costs and have some spending money left over.

Just think, fame AND fortune! 😉
